Reverb vs delay - when to use each
Posted by Zofia Wiśniewska (brand_manager) in mixing-mastering
Both create space in a mix, but they serve different purposes:
Reverb: Makes sounds feel like they're in a physical space. Use on vocals, pads, snares. Plate and hall reverbs are timeless.
Delay: Creates rhythmic interest and depth. Use on vocals, melodies, and hi-hats. Sync delay to BPM for clean results.
My rule: pick one as the primary effect per element. Too much of both = mud.
On beatcorelab, the cleanest beats tend to use space effects tastefully. Less is more!
What's your go-to reverb and delay combo?
