Mixing tips for bedroom producers
Posted by George Bennett (live_sound_engineer) in mixing-mastering
As a professional mixing engineer, I work with a lot of independent artists who record at home. Common issues I fix:
1. Too much low-end rumble - use a high-pass filter around 80Hz on vocals
2. Harsh sibilance - de-ess before compression
3. Room reflections - record close to the mic with a reflection filter
4. Over-compression - dynamics are your friend
I've connected with several artists through beatcorelab's Connection feature who needed mixing help. The platform is great for audio engineers looking for clients.
